The SJU ASA represents all full-time faculty members, the university librarian, and more recently (2013) the part-time faculty at St. Jerome's University. St. Jerome’s is a public Roman Catholic university federated with the University of Waterloo.

In April 2009, the Ontario Labour Relations Board certified The St. Jerome's University Academic Staff Association (SJU ASA) as a trade union (full-time faculty). Certification came as a result of a ballot cast among 30 eligible workers. Twenty-seven faculty members cast ballots and twenty-two voted in favour of unionization.

On 4 April 2013, the Contract Academic Staff (a.k.a. "sessional instructors") at St. Jerome's University voted overwhelming in favour of forming a part-time bargaining unit within the SJU ASA. On 25 April  2013, the Ontario Labour Relations Board issued a certificate for the SJU ASA to act as sole representative to all Contract Academic Staff at St. Jerome's.

The SJU ASA is a member in good standing of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) and of the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA).

Negotiations for a part-time Collective Agreement are now underway.
